City of Youth proposes an alternative system to the repetitive urban structures that gives shape to most of the contemporary Central Business Districts.
Our proposal brings together some characteristic elements of Chinese traditional architecture and the large European experience in public space design, in a contemporary layout.
An hexagonal urban pattern is used to create a complex system of constructed and open space that organizes all the different functional programs and circulations, reproducing the image of a city fragment inside the plot.
The project consists on a sponge-like porous network of mixed functions that promotes human interaction and communication. City of Youth is not just a juxtaposition of buildings, but a complex structure filled with urban life.
From the central opened plaza, people go deep into the building through a net of pedestrian streets that configures the retail area, a maze of shops, facilities, flexible offices, courtyards, skylights and bridges that rises from the street until the public boulevard-terrace on the fourth floor, creating a three dimensional urban structure for the users.
The interaction of programs on those first four levels, together with the open plaza, gives the project a special sense of community and public identity.
